The Lincoln Town Car Ignition Switch as its name implies is the key component of the ignition and charging making of the car which is used to start the engine and for the car to operate. It turns on the starter solenoid and ignition parts and such amenities as the radio and power window. Earlier models in the Town Car involved the use of a mechanical keying system but with the newer models they use systems which have push buttons. However, the ignition switch is still a rather easily replaced part, and work is generally done according to the type of Lincoln Town Car.

Lincoln Town Car Ignition Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the ignition switch on Lincoln Town Car?
    A:
The procedure of servicing and repairing the ignition switch begins with discharging the supplemental restraint system (SRS). Position the ignition switch lock cylinder to RUN before using the suitable tool to push the cylinder release tab upward followed by removing the lock cylinder outward. Start with removing the steering wheel tilt lever and handle before releasing the upper steering column shroud by pressing the sides in. Tighten the three screws that secure the upper and lower steering column shrouds to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.) after reinstalling them. Start by disconnecting the electrical connector from the ignition switch followed by ignition switch screw removal and pulling out the switch unit before installation when the switch requires torque of 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.). The last step includes reversing the removal sequence while enabling power for the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
