A rear-wheel drive vehicle front suspension shock absorber and spring assembly servicing requires starting with shock absorber upper mount nut removal before discarding and removing the wheel with attached tire. First remove the tie-rod end nut from its position then separate the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle by using a Ball Joint Separator. Warmed up shock absorber lower nut and bolt follow the same steps of removing and discarding the upper ball joint nut. The Ball Joint Separator facilitates removal of the upper arm ball joint from the wheel knuckle before you can remove the shock absorber and spring assembly. The installation process should proceed forward when the servicing of separate shock absorber units and springs is omitted. Start by indexing the upper mount with the spring and shock absorber. Then install a suitable spring compressor to allow compressing the spring until tension leaves the shock absorber. The vehicle weight on the wheel allows you to tighten the shock absorber lower nut to 550 Nm (406 lb-ft).
