  • Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace the Shock Absorber on 2009 Ford Crown Victoria?
    A: Before working on the suspension strut you must depressurize the fire suppression system to avoid severe personal injury. You must remove the wheel first and discard three shock absorber upper mount nuts without touching the center nut since it could loosen spring tension. Support the brake hose with mechanic's wire after removing two bolts because suspending the caliper and anchor plate assembly from it can result in damage. Proceed by taking out the brake disc after which you should discard both the stabilizer bar upper link nut along with the stabilizer bar link lower nut and utilize the hex-holding feature to keep the stud from spinning freely. Remove the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainer from the wheel knuckle before discarding both upper ball joint nut as well as the shock absorber lower nut and flag bolt. Take out the shock absorber together with the spring assembly. The shock absorber and spring assembly requires installation of loose lower nut and flag bolt before any tightness. Fasten the new upper ball joint nut to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) torque while you connect the wheel speed sensor wiring harness to its position on the wheel knuckle. Use the stabilizer bar link and apply two new nuts by tightening the respective lower nut to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) and upper nut to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). Fasten the brake disc before setting up the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly through installing two anchor plate bolts with a torque value of 160 Nm (118 lb-ft). Install the wheel with its tire after positioning the three new shock absorber upper mount nuts that need tightening to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). When the vehicle rests on its wheel and tire combination tighten the shock absorber lower nut to 235 Nm (173 lb-ft). Repower the vehicle when it has a fire suppression system under all safety guidelines to protect yourself from possible severe injuries.
