How to service and repair the lower control arm on 2007 Ford Explorer?

Start lower control arm service procedures by measuring the center of the hub to the fender lip distance with the vehicle standing on flat ground. Set the vehicle to Neutral position and lift it using a hoist. Then use a jack to elevate the suspension until the hub reaches its initial measurement with the fender. Take off the stabilizer bar link nut followed by the grommet, stud and link assembly. Then get rid of the lower arm outboard bolt and flag nut. Turn down your suspension and remove the jack before getting rid of the shock absorber lower bolt and nut followed by the lower arm inboard nut and bolt to detach the lower arm. Fit the lower arm unit into its designated position then put on the new inboard lower arm bolt and nut without making it tight. Arrange the lower arm next and bolt the new shock absorber lower components into place without locking the fasteners. Place the stabilizer link parts, link stud, and new grommet in position before tightening both elements to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Insert the new lower arm outboard bolt first then tighten it to 203 ft. lbs. Tighten the lower arm inboard bolt to 185 ft. lbs. and the shock absorber lower bolt to 203 ft. lbs. End by setting the suspension depth and taking away the jack.
