2006 Lincoln Navigator Air Bag Parts Q&A

  • Q: How Should the Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System Be Depowered Before Servicing on 2006 Lincoln Navigator?
A: It is essential to wear protective safety glasses before you deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS) because of possible air bag release during servicing. It is crucial to never probe the connectors found on air bag module and safety canopy module devices because deployment could result in personal accidents. When the ignition is ON with the restraints control module (RCM) connected you should not adjust its original horizontal position because it could trigger the safety canopy deployment. Memory saver devices present safety hazards therefore their use is prohibited. A seat containing side air bag and safety belt pretensioner requires the SRS to be set in depowered status before any servicing work can begin. Each service starts with switching off all vehicle accessories together with the ignition switch. Extract fuse number 19 (10A) of the RCM from the CJB which is situated beneath the instrument panel right side. A lights a 30-second continuous display of the air bag indicator when the ignition turns ON provided the selected fuse was correctly removed. Completely turn off the ignition before disconnecting the ground cable of the battery along with other auxiliary power sources When conducting a vehicle repowering procedure every diagnostic tool that interacts with the restraint system should be removed from the system. Once the RCM fuse 19 (10A) is replaced in the CJB mount the battery ground cable but maintain safety by making sure no person is in or near the vehicle and air bag systems are not covered. You can run a verification check on the SRS by using the ignition key to go through OFF and wait 10 seconds before returning to ON. Approximately 6 seconds indicate that the air bag indicator should come on before it shuts off. A present fault will cause the indicator light to fail activation or stay illuminated or show a flashing pattern and may play chimes during such situations. A diagnostic tool should be used to delete all continuous diagnostic trouble codes present in the RCM.
